By The Cornell IPM NY Berry Pest Monitoring Network
As of the first week of June, the first SWD trap captures have been reported in Suffolk and Ulster Counties. This is approximately average timing, and slightly earlier than 2025 (which was a late year for SWD emergence).
This is a good reminder to get your SWD traps out and check them weekly! Complete protocols for using these traps are on the Cornell Fruit Resources website: fruit.cornell.edu/spottedwing/monitoring/
Monitoring and correct identification are critical steps for effective management. For a review of SWD biology and identification you can visit the Cornell Fruit Resources website at fruit.cornell.edu/spottedwing/
Management should be initiated with the first trap capture and ripening fruit. Monitoring helps ensure the crop is protected, without wasting precious time and materials.
